QSL Card Photo

The Glamorgan Castle, located in Alliance, Ohio (approximately 3 miles [4.5 KM] from my home) was built from 1904-1909. I took the photograph above in late fall, 2003. A storm several days later stripped most of the leaves from the trees. The original photograph has been digitally retouched using Adobe Photoshop Elements software. I wanted the final image to closely resemble what the Castle looked like upon completion is 1909. Several window air conditioning units, one boarded-up window, and a rooftop tower with police and fire antennas was eliminated from the photograph, and the drab looking sky present that day was replaced. Retouching this photo was a significant educational experience in manipulating digital photographs aided in large part by my mentor, K3YX. Also assisting with critical analysis of the finished image was K3JAS.

The Glamorgan Castle currently  houses the administrative offices for the Alliance city school district. Tours are available.

My amateur radio QSL card - used to confirm two way radio communication with other amateur stations and shortwave listener reports - is a full color card based on this photo. My cards were printed by Gennady, UX5UO - a skilled graphic artist and affordable printer that I highly recommend. Click on the card for a larger view.
