Antennae

The most critical element for success in transmission and reception of radio signals is said to be the antenna system.

A great deal of planning has gone into the placement (location and separation) of the towers and guy wires.  The towers are positioned such that a simple wire antenna strung up between them is optimized for signals to and from Europe. The guys were placed to select the optimum "dead zone" that would be encountered when swing arms were installed along the sides of the towers.
